About this Item

First edition, 8vo, pp. [10], 276; 14 engraved figures on one folding plate; half brown cloth over marbled paper-covered boards, sensitively rebacked with original spine laid, some wear to extremities and light foxing throughout, including the plate. Johan Friederich August Breithaupt (1791-1873) was an influential German mineralogist who discovered more than 40 minerals and was among the first to study pseudomorphs. "Breithaupt's greatest contribution by far to mineralogy and to the study of ore deposits was his little book, Die Paragenesis der Mineralien. Although others had noticed that there is some regularity in the association of different minerals, he was the first to make a comprehensive study of such minerals. The importance of his work in this field was immediately recognized" (DSB). Bookseller Inventory # 31047
