Add to basketColored illustrated boards, top and bottom of spine lightly chipped, small torn piece of paper adhered to bottom of back cover. Internally very good with short tears to some leaves. 108 pp., with 32 full-page color lithographs including the title page. The first half of the book is a parody of the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta Patience, dedicated to and revolving around workers of the Chicago & Alton Railroad. The color plates depict many different employees, including conductors, porters, and engineers as well as passengers. The last 48 pages are ads, many illustrated, for railroads and businesses which operated in Chicago. The first six pages are a short piece entitled "A Trip to Niagara Falls" on the Michigan Central Railroad. Patience premiered in the United States in September, 1881. This was dated from one of the ads which includes a letter with an 1883 date. Another of the ads is the announcement of the publication of Dalziel's parody of another Gilbert & Sullivan show, Iolanthe, which had opened in the United States in November, 1882.
