The selected essays are reprints of translations of Achad-Haam writings (Asher Zvi Hirsch Ginsberg, 1856-1927) which have recently appeared in the Jewish Chronicle. "They represent merely a fraction of an entire series which, in their complete form, cover the whole underlying philosophy in Zionism" (Bentwich). Achad-Haam was a pre-state Zionist thinker who is know as the founder of cultural Zionism, proposing the creation of a Jewish state with its own secular Jewish culture.
