This softcover book (yes from 1899) is square and tight. The wrappers are brightly colored on the front with advertisements for book sets on the rear. There is a small bit of corner loss to the lower front, along with several of the first pages. Also, minor wear to the edges and extremities. Still, the wrappers are in excetional condition for its age. The spine has no folding. The pages are bright and clean, having no markings or folds. Mild even edge toning throughout (less than would be expected). This is a beautiful copy. Collection quality of this version of the work of a renowned Antebellum South Carolina author. No. 29 of The Sterling Series. A fine addition for any collector of South Caroliniana, Civil War literature, works on the Revolutionary War, or antique paperbacks. PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
