About this Item

xviii, 586 p. 28 cm pictorial softcover binding. Includes 3 maps and over 80 b&w illustrations. No discernible wear. Porte was the Postmaster in Lucan, Ontario (then West Canada) when he began the diary and it is noted as an important historical document for scholars of the Donnelly massacre. However, it also offers historical insight into the town of Lucan from its beginnings in 1862 until Porte's last entry in October 1898. Glenn and Greg Stott's edition offers critical and photographic context for this valuable historical document for readers who not typically access the original text stored in the Archives at the University of Western Ontario's Weldon Library.
