About this Item

Unpaginated Hardcover. New book. NEW YORK. "What is unusual about this charming anthology is how well the poems and poets - some well-known, others not - all fit together, as if the Long Island they celebrate so beautifully has a sensibility they all share, even though some of the poets write about everyday life and some about sea and sky. The more than 300 photographs that accompany the poems make a perfect embellishment. The book demonstrates how Long Island is, and has been, a nest of singing birds." - Harvey Shapiro, author of The Sights Along the Harbor: New and Collected Poems (Key Words: Long Island, Kathaleen Donnelly, Poetry, Photography, Nature, New York, Paumanok). About this title

Synopsis:

Poetry. Photography. Compiled and edited by Kathaleen Donnelly. PAUMANOK: POEMS AND PICTURES OF LONG ISLAND is an anthology of 105 poets and 66 photographers, whose lyrics--one poem for each of the 366 days of the year (including the leap year)--and images traverse the length and breadth of Long Island--its land, its sea, its sky--visions of the past and the present, which artistically document its physical and imaginative qualities. It's the first such comprehensive combination in word and photograph in book form, a coffee-table book meant to grace the living room of every Long Islander.
