About this Item

120 pages. One and one half page folded letter in the hand of, and signed by, Anna E. Dickinson is tipped in at the front of this volume. Letter is dated Nov. 25, 1869 and discusses dates available and fees to give a lecture. Volume and letter are both in very good condition. Cloth covers show light rubbing and there is a little chipping to end leaves on the paste down. Book plate of John Sloan Tough on front paste down. Volume remains tight and otherwise clean and intact. Writing on letter remains bright and clear. Letter is neatly folded and paper remains in very good condition. Anna Elizabeth Dickson (1842-1932) was an American lecturer and writer who advocated for abolition and women's rights. In 1864, she was the first woman to speak before congress, and received a standing ovation. In both her writings and her lectures, she was a voice for the suppressed and an advocate for education and technical training for everybody. Size: 12mo. Bookseller Inventory # 023928
