About this title

Penguin tries all sorts of things to get the moon to talk to him.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-- Penguin longs to talk to the moon but the moon remains silent. Through the five wishes of the giant starfish and with the help of friends, he is lifted up to the moon and learns that the moon has always answered but was just too far away to be heard. Penguin follows a long tradition of characters who have sought to befriend the moon in this tale told in the folktale style. This very slight adventure is illustrated with vibrant paintings of deep blue, aqua, and gold hues that would show up well in toddler and preschool story times, and are far superior to the text. Frank Asch's Happy Birthday, Moon (Prentice Hall, 1982) and Eric Carle's Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me (Picture Book Studio, 1986) are for the same age group and have stronger story lines. --Nancy Curtin, Port Washington Public Library, NY
