About this Item

Not dated, but circa 1867 - 1870. In the original, light brown wraps, with some light soiling to the covers, and light edge-chipping. 46 clean pages numbered xv - lx. Quoting the opening lines: "The object of the pesent paper - written at the request of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania - is to bring down to the present day a history of the Penn family .". There is a large inscription at the upper right corner of the front cover: "Pearsall Smith / Fridays Hill / Haslemere". Pearsall Smith was an American Quaker, who bought a house in Haslemere, U.K. His daughter Alys married Bertrand Russell. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 16126
