Oblong Quarto, white fabric covers with black lettering, sewn spine, x, 105 pp., b/w illustrations and photos, biographies, apartial listing and chronologt of the artists who were at CSFA. With the four page paper Catalog of Exhibition laid in. A pioneering exhibit on the San Francisco Abstract Expressionist scene in the immediate post-war years. The scene centered around the California School of Fine Art where Clifford Still, Mark Rothko and Ad Reinhardt were some of the most important artists acting as instructors. West Coast Abstract Expressionism was a phenomenon with a separate life from the New York School particularly in the early period. Some of the artists did migrate to New York but most did not, David Park and Richard Diebenkorn being the best known of the ones who stayed. Figures interviewed for the book are Jeremy Anderson, Dorr Bothwell, Ernest Briggs, Joan Brown, Lawrence Calcagno, Edward Corbett, James Budd Dixon, Edward Dugmore, Alfred Frankenstein, Jorge Goya, Dimitri Grachis, John Grillo, John Hultberg, Jack Jefferson, James Kelly, Walter Kuhlman, Seymour Locks, Douglas MacAgy, Madeline Diamond Martin, Robert Mc Chesney, William Morehouse, Raymond Parker, Ad Reinhardt, Deborah Remington, Philip Roeber, John Saccaro, Jon Schuler, Peter Shoemaker, Hassel Smith, Clay Spohn, Jean Varda and James Weeks.
