Synopsis: During the early 70's, actor Perry Bedden took and collected many photographs that he is now sharing with the fans. It was an exciting time for all but despite all the success, nobody could have predicted what would become of the movie and stage play. In this book you will see the other side of the Rocky Horror experience. Perry has kindly given permission to publish his personal and, until now, private pictorial collection of the very early days of the Rocky Horror movie and stage play.
About the Author: Perry Bedden was born in London in 1951. His first professional role as an actor was at the age of 12, playing Kurt in “The Sound of Music,” to be followed by the older boy Fredrich as he grew taller. This production was at the Palace Theatre to which Perry would return eight years later in the original London cast of “Jesus Christ, Superstar.” He attended ‘stage school’ where he studied drama and dance. He excelled at tap dancing and re-ceived a gold medal. His talent for tap was used in “Jesus Christ, Superstar” as he was part of Herod’s Court which required a tap dance routine half way through the song. He has appeared on stage, television, and film. He mostly did musicals that included: “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” “Goodbye Mr. Chips,” “Hair,” “Jesus Christ, Superstar,” “West Side Story,” and of course “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” along with the follow up movie “Shock Treatment.” Perry also appeared in the play as Riff Raff at the King’s Road Theatre; and later in the first West End production at the Comedy Theatre. Included in this cast was an unknown actress named Tracy Ullman playing Janet Weiss. This was followed by a brief production in Germany and then a tour of Australia in 1981, through 1982, that broke all box office records. Perry holds the record of being the longest running Riff Raff to date when taking into account all the productions of “The Rocky Horror Show” he’s appeared in. He sang backing vocals on Little Nell’s recordings of “Do the Swim” and “Fever.” He teamed up with the talented Jonathan Kramer to become one half of Truth and Beauty where they released a single called “Tuff Little Surfer Boy” and on the B-side was “Toucha, Touch Me.” He recorded an album of “The Sound of Music” with Mary Martin and was produced by Disney Records, which was only ever released in America. He also recorded the movie album of “Goodbye Mr. Chips” for MGM and also the original London cast album of “Jesus Christ, Superstar.” For “The Rocky Horror Show,” he recorded a mini album of the 1981, and 1982, Australian touring production, playing the role of Riff Raff. In December 2013, Perry stepped back into the studio and recorded a cover of “Celluloid Heroes” by Ray Davies.
