Julius Lessing (1843-1908) was a German art historian and the first director of the Berliner Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin). As such, he published this splendid work on vintage Persian-Turkish faience pottery plates from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Includes 15 lithographic plates depicting some of the best examples of antique Persian-Ottoman dishes most with foliate rim and all decorated with flowers. The second plate is decorated with flowers and a cypress tree.Heavy rubbing along edges of wrappers. Spine split and partly missing. Covers partly water-stained and darkened. Moderate foxing throughout. Some pages loose. Lower gutter of most plates water-stained (only slightly affecting images of plates 14 and 15). Text in German.
