480, 454 pp. No ads. 12mo. A copy of the first American edition of "David Copperfield," published by Wiley. Issued in parts beginning in 1849Ð50. Some single issues of the serial parts and some copies of the book were labeled with G. P. Putnam as publisher (no priority). The number of illustrations can be variable, but the List of Illustrations has twenty titles in the first volume (of which all 20 are present) and 18 in the second. (of which the lfirst one is missing). Page 14 misnumbered "4" in Volume II. A very rare item, deserving of restoration). Covers poor with hinges cracked internally, worn externally. Front hinge nearly separated in Volume II. Spine worn. Shaken. Mild to moderate foxing. Else, Good. Podeschi A124. Sumner & Stillman Cat. No. 36 (McGuire Collection), #42. Wilkins, p.29 for parts issue only. Edgar and Vail, p.25. Half black calf and marbled boards. Gilt titling. All edges speckled red. A few signatures suggest these volumes to have been bound from the parts with stab holes evident. First American Edition in Book Form. Bookseller Inventory # 10081
