Book Description New YorK Charles L. Webster & Co., 1885. Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. A binding copy (Poor to Fair) of the complete two volume set. Each volume is an 1885 8vo leather bound hardcover in no dust jacket as issued. Vol. I has a name and date (January, 1886) written on a front end paper, the stamped number '17742' on the recto of the frontispiece, and a small embossed 'B' appears under the 1885 date on the title page. The marbled free front end paper, the following leaf, and the half title page for Vol. I are separated from the rest of the text block. Further the Vol. I fold-out facsimile of a dispatch, reply, and an answer relating to the surrender of Ft. Donelson is loose but present. (Because of improper folds, this facsimile also has some edge wear.) While a bit edge tanned, the contents of both volumes remain fully legible, and appear complete with intact text blocks. While marbled, the top edge is dust stained and significantly faded on the fore and bottom edges. Modest condition grade primarily because all four light brown leather boards are completely detached, Vol. 1 has only the top half of the exterior spine covering, and the exterior spine covering on Vol. 2 is detached from the rear spine edge and has large chips at the top and bottom. There is also above average rubbing and scuffing to the boards. No ex-library markings. **Extra charges to cover shipping costs will apply to an order requesting expedited and/or international shipping because of the size and weight of this two volume set.
