Baedeker , 1928.The inscription reads: "Mariessa. mit herzlichem Weihnachtsgru?ü. Peter Behrens. Wien 14.XII.29."Peter Behrens (1868-1940), architect and designer; of unique importance in the genesis of modernism; author of the founding principle of the Deutscher Werkbund, pioneer of the use of design for the creation and dissemination of an entire corporate identity; among those apprenticed to him were van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Meyer, and Gropius. Behrens autographs are scarce.Behrens (1868--1940) was one of the key figures in the development of modern architecture. He had a considerable private practice in Berlin and also attracted to his office three pupils of greatest future importance, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and --- for a short period in 1910 --- Le Corbusier. The present work is one of the two best records of his work; the other is a book by F. Hoeber, Peter Behrens, Munich, 1913. Both are very scarce. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 106472
