About this Item

No 273 of 275 copies, this one on Vergé D'Arches. 4to. 27.5 by 18.5 cm. Unpaginated, about 155 pages. With 12 pochoir plates, and 93 color vignettes dispersed through the text. The pochoir was done by Jean Saudé. The story concerns princes in exile hopping from one grand hostelry to another, a louche lifestyle brought on by the overturning of the old order by the First World War, and the Nouveau Riches and gold-digging Flappers they encounter in the new age of faster automobiles and the like. The illustrations glamorize the new silhouette and streamlined fashions and capture the rage for the fox trot and tango and as always. As always, Brunelleschi shows an affinity for the exotic and a kind of Orientalism. Original wraps are bound in to lovely half-morocco binding. Minor light foxing on the fore-edge. Minimal sunning of the spine. Otherwise, a clean, bright and very handsome copy. Bookseller Inventory # 004659

Shipping Terms:

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
