Small quarto. 118pp. First edition. One of 200 copies, this copy unnumbered. Inscribed by the compiler, William Fletcher. With a Preface by Fletcher and an Essay on the Artist by Graham Carey. Hagreen, who worked between 1918 and 1959, was a fine wood engraver who studied with Eric Gill. This Catalogue Raisonné illustrates all of his engravings, many of which appeared in the books of the St. Dominic's Press. Gift inscription to first page of Preface, else fine in buckram. Loosely inserted: a 15-line quotation about a cat from a poem Christopher Smart written out by Philip Hagreen in 1962; a very short note from Philip and Aileen Hagreen; a small woodcut on hand-made paper; a Christmas card from Philip and Aileen; an announcement of his death and an interesting typed note from the Rev John Hagreen saying that Philip Hagreen sold all his woodblocks to Graham Carey and these are now the property of his widow, Nancy Carey, but that they have disappeared.
