About this Item

Yes, this 29 page little stick of cerebral dynamite, being an increasingly well respected and energetically applauded offering it is proudly presented with great and well deserved hubris by Hirschfeld Galleries in the publishers ORIGINAL binding. Said binding being very dark blue cloth with gilt lettering. And this little baby is rock solid, tight and clean. This is the brilliant fourth annual lecture of the National Book League, delivered by Bertrand Russell, R. R. S., at Friends House, Euston Road, London on Wednesday, October 23, 1946, at 6 p.m. John Masefield, O.M. in the chair. From the opening paragraph: "I suggest that philosophy, if it is bad philosophy, may be dangerous, and therefore deserves that degree of negative respect which we accord to lightning and tigers. What positive respect may be due to "good" philosophy I will leave for the moment an open question." This little book is singularly wise, humane and timely statement on the vital problems of today. Russell looks alternately dispassionately and passionately at all sides of this controversially chosen subject matter, and we at Hirschfield Galleries hope that only those who similarly read and contemplate with an objective mind would yearn to become the next caretaker of this seminalogic work. Alas, when all is said and done and the proverbial geese have come home to nest or roost, or whatever, and you're ready to decide to invest some of your hard-earned cash in this lofty offering, please consider that this book does indeed have the four absolute uppermost qualities we at Hirschfeld Galleries since 1931 have always sought, and demanded, in books: 1) excellence in content, 2) literary quality, 3) appealing design, and 4) significance of contribution. Another great altruistic offering opportunity for us and an even greater opportunity for self-actualized reception on your part. But enough of the lugubrious however allegorically wise jaw-jacking, enough said of the telluric parameters of select Hirschfeld Galleries' offerings such as this one which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin. Research, analysis, dissertation, lucubrations or just enjoyment, this is the one. ACTUAL BOOK FOR SALE PICTURED.
