Derby was a military officer with a humerous bent who submitted these humorus sketches to the Alta California, San Diego Herald and the Pioneer magazine while he was stationed in California in the early 1850's. This volume is number 5 in the Third Series of Rare Americana published by The Grabhorn Press in an edition of 550 copies. Very good copy. Bookseller Inventory # 12553
