About this Item
Oblong quarto measuring 11.5" x 8.5". Screw-bound black leather over stiff paper boards with gilt titles. Contains 31 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring 7" x 10" mounted on linen with some captions in the negative. A photo album of a large home dubbed "Happiness" in Douglas Manor, New York. It appears this album was used by real estate agent, N.H. Bachmann, Esq. who was selling the home in the 1930s. The first pages reads, "Two hundred feet of waterfront property facing Little Neck Bay, covering the entire block front on Shore Road." It continues, "this magnificent fourteen-room mansion built of stucco with tile roof, with a three-car garage (complete living quarters above), is one of the most imposing places in Douglaston. Every comfort provided. Laundry, double heating system, a private wharf with swimming off property, anchorage for motor or sail boats: vegetable and flower gardens; fruit trees. Fourteen miles from New York, 23 minutes from Pennsylvania Station, frequent electric trains." Following this are large photographs of the house beginning with the front of the home, the water access points including a private boat landing, and the neighborhood. Each room of the house is represented including the living room, bedrooms, and the "gentleman's play room." The final two pages feature layouts of the home with a "full plan of property" drawing. An interesting album used for the sale of a home in an exclusive neighborhood in Long Island in the 1930s. Seller Inventory # 435454
