About this Item

Description:

Oblong quarto measuring 12.5" x 8". Wooden album. Contains 33 black and white silver gelatin photographs most measuring 3" x 4" with one large photo measuring 5.5" x 9" with captions. Very good album with fine photographs. A photo album compiled by Ginger Rogers while on a trip to Table Rock Estates in Oregon in November of 1948. Rogers documents the entire trip with extensive captions detailing the excursion. The captions are all printed in Roger s handwriting and it would appear more than one was compiled as souvenirs for her fellow travelers. Participants included actor Ward Bond, dancer Ann Miller, actor Jack Briggs, Chicago restaurateur Ernie Byfield, novelist and screenwriter Niven Busch, actor John Howard, Teresa Wright and Gail Storm, American actors. Also present were actors Lee Bowman, Robert (Bob) Preston, John Carroll, and Jimmy Starr. One caption reads, "10 a.m. Friday morning, Nov. 5, we left by chartered plane from L.A. Chuck Fisher in the middle with his wife was a chief pilot." The gang refers to themselves as the "Rogue River Regulars" and seems to having a great time eating, fishing, and telling tall tales. The trip was organized in Oregon by John Stewart Day a rancher and big game hunter who lived in the Medford, Oregon, area. Day was a long-time friend of Rogers and business partner. Day co-owned the Blue Moon Ranch near Medford, Oregon, with Rogers. According to the Oregon Historical Society, "In the late 1940s, he made efforts to create a Medford-area resort, Table Rock Estates, for celebrities. While this project faltered, another of his real estate developments, Verde Hills, was successful and incorporated into the city of Medford." Ginger Rogers was near the height of her career in 1948 after starring with Fred Astair in nine movies in the 1930's. Rogers won an Oscar in 1940 for her role in *Kitty Foyle* and soon was one of the highest paid actors by the time of this trip. Seller Inventory # 462136
