An extensive photo album detailing various trips taken in the 1930s to the Caribbean, Glacier Park, and Yellowstone, as well as other destinations. The compiler appears to be a woman named Helen and seems to have been a budding amateur photographer and many of the images are well-composed views of the various trips. The entire album is well captioned with place names and dates throughout. The album begins with a 1935 trip to the Carribean with stops in St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Domenica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, British Guiana, Grenada, and other islands over the late summer months of that year. Images from this trip show the well-dressed travelers posed around the islands, trying coconut milk, and posed with locals. Many of photographs show scenes of the islands with captions reading, "Wayside scene," "planter s house Sylvania orange groves," "Hindu street vendor," and "washday." The second part of the album documents trips taken in the United States in the summer of 1936 beginning with Glacier Park. One photo from this trip is captioned "Blackfeet Indian chiefs all of them" and shows a group of Native American men in full traditional dress. From there they travel further north to Canada where they visit Waterton Lakes. These images show beautiful views of the landscape with gleaming sunsets over the lakes, icebergs, and mountain ranges. One photo is captioned, "Ruth, Lu, and Helen trying the rocky short cut to the top of the Switchback." Later in 1936 they travel to Yellowstone National Park photographing animals, waterfalls, and a sunrise over Mt. Washington. They visit geysers, canyons, and hiking trails in the park. One photo reads, "Eruption of Old Faithful from balcony of Old Faithful Inn." The final pages show the group s trip to the Great Lakes Exposition in Cleveland in august of 1936. A wonderful collection of travel photography from a female traveler in the mid-1930s.
