On an album leaf 5.5" x 8" (140 x 204 mm.): I am very happy to add mine to your collection of autographs." Autograph laid down to mounting sheet at corners of verso; photograph slightly worn, with remnants of adhesive to verso. "[Garrison] joined the Metropolitan Opera. making her official début as Frasquita in Carmen in November 1914. She only attracted real attention, however, when she substituted at short notice for Raymonde Delaunois as Urbain in Les Huguenots the following month. Similarly, she made a fine impression two years later when she replaced Frieda Hempel as the Queen of Night, and she scored her greatest success as the Queen of Shemakha in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel, covering for Maria Barrientos, in 1918." Philip L. Miller in Grove Music Online. Herman Mishkin (1870-1948) served as the Metropolitan Opera's official portraitist from 1908-1932, producing an important body of work documenting "The Golden Age of Opera.". RODGERS, Jimmie (1933-2021)
Used Signed

Seller: Main Street Fine Books & Mss, ABAA, Galena, IL, U.S.A.

Seller rating 5 out of 5 stars 5-star rating, Learn more about seller ratings

This pop singing sensation of the latre '50s and '60s achieved stardom in 1957 with the single "Honeycomb" and a string of "Top Ten" singles such as "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," "Waltzing Matilda," "Are You Really Mine" and more, releasing bestselling singles and albums; in 1959 he briefly had his own television variety show; he also appeared in several films and numerous television specials. ANS (pencil), irregular-trimmed vaguely rectangular 7" X 4", n.p., n.y. Addressed to Don. Very good. Two fold lines and 4 tape stains at edges. Super early and cordial note to an admirer: "I'm not very good at Verses but I would like to say thank you for your wonderful letter. It helps so much in this business to have people who are sincere tell you that you performed well. Good luck in the Service." Though undated, this is of late 1950s vintage when Rodgers was at the height of his fame and seemingly overwhelmed and insecure. Accompanied by a large 8½" X 11½" half-length portrait of a young Rodgers strumming a guitar, seemingly removed from a book or programs (and with images of two other singers on verso). Very good. Several fold lines and several tape stains at edges. He pencils an inscription in blank but darkish areas at upper left and upper right (making for poor contrast): "Hi Don, / Thank you for / being so nice" at left and "Best of Luck / and happiness / always / Jimmie Rodgers" at right. Despite being in pencil and condition issues this is an unusual pair from the early years of Rodgers career. Seller Inventory # 48307

This Republican politician from Wisconsin tried and failed to replace Senator Joe McCarthy; he served five terms in Congress from 1947 to 1957 and another four terms frm 1965 to 1974, but is best remembered as star shortstop for the Washington Senators," the Congressional baseball team. ANS, 1p, 6½" X 8½", n.p., n.y. Addressed to Mrs. Higgins. Fine. On "House of Representatives" personalized letterhead, Davis writes: "Hope the enclosed picture will serve your purposes." Boldly penned and signed in blue ballpoint. Undated, but circa 1970. The picture in question is an outstanding 8½" X 6½" glossy black-and-white news agency photograph. The newsprint text sheet tipped to verso dates it 5 May 1947, titles it "Getting in Trim for Congressional Game" and describes the scene: "Rep. Charles Fletcher, (R. of Calif.) attempts a bunt during a practice workout of the House's Republican team today in preparation for their game with the House Democrats this coming Saturday in the Griffith Stadium in Washington. Rep. Glenn Davis, (Wisconsin) is the catcher, and umpiring is Rep. Harold Hagen (Minnesota)." A delightful image showing the brand-new Congressman doing what he became best known for! Nice unusual pair. Seller Inventory # 49584

the photos show the Admiral bareheaded with medals and decorations, on one side and the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs of 1480 inaugurated by him on 3rd December 1922 at Otranto on the other, on the reverse there is a printed transcription of the Admiral's speech on the occasion, and his autograph note to "the valorous General Pinzio BIROLI", with "heartfelt thanks for the pamphlet 'El Ejercito National'", (sic, 'the National Army'), sending his "cordial congratulations on his fruitful work on the Equator and sincere regards", 5½" x 7", no place, ca. The admiral's speech, in the presence of Prince Umberto, refers to 'a marvellous throb of vigorous new activity', meaning the Fascist revolution of six weeks before. Thaon di Revel had served with distinction in the Italo-Turkish war of 1911, the monument in the photograph recalling an earlier destruction of Otranto by the Turks. As chief of naval staff, 1913, he built up the Italian Fleet Air Arm preparatory to entering the war and was overall commander (at his own insistence) of all naval forces, including British and French, in the Adriatic.
