Marbled page ends. First Edition. Illustrated. Jarndyce, Dickens Catalogue CXIII, #93, 94. Sadleir I, #2038. Podeschi (Gimbel) H382. VanderPoel B58, B59 (1, 2, 3, 4) A parody of "Pickwick," issued in 20 monthly parts, in imitation of Dickens' mode of publication. Jarndyce reports that this edition may be a remainder edition, with Louis James describing the edition of Sherwood, Gilbert, & Piper (also 1839, but issued in Parts in 1838Ð39) as likely to be the true first. Press reviews of the parts edition are heavily quoted in the Tegg edition. Steel engravings (Plates) by Alfred Crowquill and John Phillips. Many wood engravings by Bonner inserted into text. Reynolds was the author of numerous romances and many volumes of "Miscellany." The listed titles and the captions of the frontispiece and early plates are the reverse of the VanderPoel B59 (3) variant. Foxing. browning and offsetting of Illustrations, as usual for this item. Wear of leather at ends of spine, hinges and corners, but soumd.Slightly shaken. Possibly lacks final page of preface. Else, a Good copy. Bookseller Inventory # 8411
