Book Description Renaissance Editions, EB, 1967. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. Hardcover. 4to. Renaissance Editions, Inc. 1967. 139 pgs. Illustrated with Black and White Plates. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Previous owner's name present to the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards clean with no wear present. Drawings, photographs, and descriptions of the weird and wonderful contraptions that fathered the modern outboard. Mr William James (Jim to his friends) Webb went to work for Ole Evinrude in 1926 as Mr. Evirude was cranking up production on his second outboard motor company, Elto Motors. The Evinrude Motor Company had been sold in 1914 when Mrs. Evinrude's (Bess) health had failed in the effort of running the business end of the company. Mr. Evinrude (Ole) took care of engineering and production. Ole & Bess were a perfect team, but neither did well with the other. After a five year vacation, the pare were ready to again revolutionize the boating industry by producing the first outboard built largely of aluminum. There chief competition came from an upstart company which came out the following year - Johnson motors. Jim soon found himself in Elto sales. In the boom year off 1929, Elto was combined with Evinrude and Lockwood motors of Jacksonville Michigan to form Outboard Motors Corporation. Jim retired as Vice President of Sales for OMC in 1964. In this often quoted book he has documented the first 60+ years of an industry that put millions on the water. He was also the historian of the Antique Outboard motor Club, incorporated as a nonprofit Club promoting the restoration and preservation of old outboards. Mr. Webb's book is quoted in "Evinrude - Johnson and the Legend of OMC", 'The Old Outboard Book", "Ole and the Old Fellows", and numerous articles in boating magazines. Jim paid to have 1000 books printed. EB; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 139 pages. Seller Inventory # 52389
