xi and 383 p. This is No. 45 in the Lakeside Classic series. R.R. Donnelley published a reprint of a classic historical work each year, in a fine edition. The books were given as gifts to Donnelley employees and have never been available for sale except in the secondary market. In good condition, they are highly prized and a set of several of them is a beautiful addition to a library. Each book contains a Publisher's Preface that gives background on the selection and publication of the book and on the status of the company, established in 1864 and now the world's largest publisher. The noted historian Milo Quaife wrote historical introductions, footnotes, indexes, etc., for many of these classics. In this case, to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Gold Rush, the publisher selected a number of extracts from contempary accounts, Quaife serving as editor. There are nine accounts of participants and a chapter reproducing an agreement of the Madison Wisconsin Mining Company with the California Mining Company and the laws of mining. Includes a map, several illustrations with tissue covers, appendixes, notes, and index. Dark red cloth hard cover, gilt titles, top edges gilt. Fine. Bookseller Inventory # LC45
