DJ top front corner is knicked, light wear top/bottom edges of DJ spine. 271pp. Orange cloth. 2nd Printing stated on DJ front flap. Tight, bright copy with firm corners. No remainder mark. No internal notes, markings. Unclipped pictorial DJ in Mylar cover ($3.00). Illus. with b&w drawings by John O'Hara Cosgrave II. Steamboating on the Ohio River and its tributaries in the early 20th Century up to the 1940s. Author himself was a river pilot on the Ohio and Allegheny for 17 years. This book is signed by the crew and passengers of the Riverboat Gordon C. Greene from the 1940s and named after the captain of the General Crowder, Gordon C. Greene, The General Crowder of the Greene Line operating in the 1920s and upward: "Mary B. Greene, Master" "Crew - H.M. Carr - Mate; ? H. Mcarren, Ensign (?); James J. Villane, Drummer" - 13 passengers signed the book: Edward Howard, Nora Howard, Gertrude Rice, Ed Rice + 9 others. There is no date indicating when this took place, probably the 40s or 50s when these boats were operating more as tour boats than shippers. Unusual item. USPS Tracking provided.
