Engraving from the atlas volume of Duflot de Mofras' Exploration du Territoire de L'Oregon, des Califronie et de la Mer Vermeille. Two maps on one sheet. Sheet size: 12 x 19 1/2. Frame size: 21 3/4 x 27 1/4". Inventory#: p1940pfat. The plan on the left is most likely the second printed plan of Monterey, California. (The first appeared in Don Alcala Gahanos' Relacion, Madrid, 1802.) This 1844 plan by Duflot de Mofras is the best cartographical record of this important town at the close of the Mexican period. Many interesting features are located, including a cemetery, mines, and the seats of individual landowners. The plan on the right is undoubtedly the earliest of Trinidad Bay, in northern California. Wagner called Duflot de Mofras' work "one of the twenty rarest and most important.dealing with the history of California". Bookseller Inventory # 001940
