About this Item

Engraving from the atlas volume of Duflot de Mofras' Exploration du Territoire de L'Oregon, des Californies et de la Mer Vermeille. Two maps on one sheet. Sheet size: 12 x 19 3/4". Frame size: 21 3/4 x 27 1/4". Inventory#: p1938pfat. This is probably the second printed plan of the port of San Diego, California, preceded only by the Spanish Admiralty chart published in 1802. It give excellent detail of what was then a very small Spanish settlement, locating the Mission of San Diego, the Presidio, or fort (then in ruins), and the small town ("Pueblo"). Wagner calls Duflot de Mofras' work "one of the twenty rarest and most important.dealing with the history of California". Bookseller Inventory # 001938
