Original pen-and-ink cartoon drawing. 8 by 6 inches. Probably from 1943-1946, when Williams was a staff illustrator for the New Yorker magazine. Only seven of his drawings ever appeared in the magazine during his three years there, but it did lead to a connection with New Yorker writer E. B. White, who recommended Williams to illustrate his children's books, Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web. Small mark in red pencil in upper right corned, else fine. Signed in pencil, 'Garth Williams.'.
