About this title
"The Platinum and Palladium Buyer's Guide" is THE book about the magical metal platinum and its sister metal, palladium. The book is divided into three broad sections.
The first is devoted to basic education and information about platinum and palladium and the other precious metals. It includes little-known facts and secrets about the precious metals. You'll learn why people purchase precious metals, and how and where to buy them. We've included tips on finding a good dealer, being a good customer, and how to develop a financial plan to guide your buying.
When we first began writing this book, other experts in the field tried to dissuade us. They felt there were not enough platinum and palladium coins to warrant a book. We disagreed, but in the course of our research, even we were amazed to discover the quantity and variety of platinum and palladium coins, and medals that have been minted.
In the second part of the book, you will find a variety of old and new coins, piedforts and pattern pieces, fantasy pieces and coins-of-tradition. Some of these were minted in very small quantities. In this section you will find not only today's most popular platinum and palladium coins and bars, but also one of the largest selections of rare platinum and palladium coins assembled in one place.
We've included a variety of specifications and photographs to help you identify coins. There is at least one actual-sized photograph of each coin listed. You can place a coin you are looking at -- and possibly purchasing -- right on its corresponding picture to be sure it is the correct size. When you flip to this section you will notice that many countries offer their platinum bullion coins and bars in a variety of sizes. The very first, legal tender, Platinum Eagle coins minted by the United States are included here.
The third broad section of this reference is filled with lots of easy-to-use reference materials. It includes a glossary, tables of weights and measures, conversion tables, the high and low prices of platinum and palladium and the other pgms, a bibliography and much more.
To make it easier to compare one precious metal coin with another of like size, all Troy Ounce conversions have been rounded to 31.103 grams. All mints have a tolerance factor for their coins and their coins may weigh a fraction more or less than this number may indicate. Any material difference from the stated weight requires further investigation on your part.
We are certain that all of you, expert and novice alike, will be pleasantly surprised by the great variety of platinum and palladium coins available. From the Publisher:
We are very excited about the way in which The Platinum & Palladium Buyer's Guide has been received by the investment and numismatic communities. Not only have we received wonderful reviews which you can read, but also by numerous testimonials from leaders in the industry. For example, Robert Leuver, Former CEO/Executive Director of the American Numismatic Society said, "This book is a valuable reference to international platinum and palladium issues and ties in well with the new U.S. Mint platinum coins. I highly recommend it!" David Ganz of Numismatic News said "Spectacular, complete, encyclopedic!" and Jacques Luben, Executive Director of the Platinum Guild International (USA) Inc., said "This book will greatly help investors and collectors gain a better understanding of the broad selection of platinum coins and bars that are available internationally." Paul A. Rowe, Chief Operating Officer of The American Church Trust Company wrote "Both of your books on gold and platinum are very helpful, accessible and well done. We use them often and are very appreciative of the information they provide."
This is the first book to showcase actual platinum and palladium coins and bars. It includes more than 250 coins (many found in no other reference) and over 400 actual-size pictures. Here you will see the first U.S. platinum Eagles, and discover tips on buying and selling. Included are the highs and lows of platinum and palladium for the past 30 years and much more!
If you are interested in precious metals, numismatics or investments, we are certain that this book will be a welcome addition to your library.
