FIRST EDITION (and printing), not explicitly stated, no record of any other printing or edition in the 19th century; edited and with a preface by the American poet & editor, Richard Watson Gilder; no dj; pencilled signature of a previous owner on the 2nd ffep has been largely erased, covers rubbed, sunned, and some soiling, 3.5 cm tear at the heel of the spinef, lettering on the spine and gold stamped lettering on the front mainly unreadable, some foxing of the pages, overall rating Fair; the original 19th century printings of Howarth's poems are very scarce; this book would interest collectors and researchers of Howarth's work as well as that of post Civil War American poets generally; cloth binding is green with gilded edges and brown inside front & back covers and endpapers; 16mo - 162 millimeters tall, 112 numbered pages. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
