However he was an incredibly self-critical poet, and only published thirteen poems during his life. Gray was offered the position of Poet Laureate, but turned it down. He is considered to be pre-Romantic.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three photograph plates.Collated, complete.Half-title is present.Prize label from Eton to the front paste down, presented to H. Ewing. In a full calf binding by Riviere and Son. Externally, generally smart, with some spots and a little rubbing to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Prize label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spotting, mostly to the plates. Very Good.
