About the Author:

JOAN MITCHELL BLUMENTHAL is a versatile artist whose interests range from painting to poetry. Her works in various media (oil, water color, acrylic and drawings) have been shown in New York, Toronto, the Palm Springs Desert Museum and The Canadian National Exhibition. Permanent installations of her mosaics are to be found in Toronto and in western Canadian cities. Reproductions of her paintings and drawings have been sold around the world and some have been chosen for the periodical, AMERICAN ARTIST. Examples of her jewelry have appeared in VOGUE magazine. Joan Blumenthal studied painting, sculpture and design at the Winnipeg School of Art, the University of California at Los Angeles, the Ontario College of Art, the Art Students’ League of New York, the Artists’ Workshop in Venice, Italy. She pursued graduate studies in art history at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts where her article on Goya appeared in their journal, MARSYAS. An artist who also enjoys teaching, lecturing and writing, she has for many years taught life drawing and painting in New York. She has contributed articles to the AMERICAN ARTIST magazine, and has been a free-lance columnist for the Gannett Newspapers. Joan Blumenthal has lectured on art history and appreciation; she has participated in TV and radio discussions about the arts; she is the lecturer on a video, “The Ways and Means of Painting” and has been the subject of feature articles in newspapers and magazines. And with it all, she loves poetry, which she has written since childhood
