Volume One - xxx, 416pp, Volume Two - xxviii, 428pp. Full morocco leather with a W Foyle Limited sticker to the rear paste down, elegant full red leather binding, raised bands, with spines in six panels, elegant gilt border to covers, all edges gilt, with cream endpapers and inner gilt dentelles (gilt border to the paste downs). Slightly rubbed to extremities, quite attractive. Internally there is some very light foxing to endpapers and occasionally to margins, but generally quite bright and clean. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles, 5 raised bands dividing 6 lavishly gilt decorated compartments. Joints good condition rubbed and worn, Vol. I front joint has started to crack at the top, others gently rubbed but sound. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition red leather boards with gilt decorated borders, the outer edges of the boards are also gilt. Page edges good condition all gilt edged. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition Vol. I front and rear hinge has started to crack and daylight can be seen but holding well, all others are sound. Paste downs good condition plain paste downs with gilt decoration to 3 edges, the front paste downs have a bookplate Ex Libris, Charles S. Routh and both rear paste downs have the book sellers label in the bottom left hand corners. End papers good condition plain end papers with foxing to the edges. Title good condition lightly tanned with very minor foxing. Pages good condition in Vol. I on one of the front free end papers there is a hand written dedication to Charles S. Routh celebrating him leaving Eton dated 1865, pages are lightly tanned throughout. Binding good condition sound. See photos Publisher: see above. Publication Date: 1854 Binding: Hardback.
