About this Item

Folio, 14.5 by 11 inches, 37 by 28 cm. Twenty color lithograph plates. Beerbohm's inimitable satirical caricatures of Omar Khayyam, Robert Browning, Boethe, Matthew Arnold, Henrik Ibsen, Lord Byron, Walt Whitman, William Watson, William Wordsworth, Lord Tennyson, Paul Verlaine, Shakespeare, Coleridge, Yeats, Homer, Robert Burns, Dante, Austin Dobson and Edmund Gosse, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Rudyard Kipling. Printed by Hazell Watson and Viney. Original wrappers, with new spine band, and the leaves are now bound in by tabs, replacing the original stab form of binding, so as to avert damage to the brittle leaves which alas have a high acidity. The front cover has light soiling and one hole, not affecting the imagery and now discreetly remedied with Japanese tissue. A few chips and small closed tears within, all a result of the card stock's brittleness and now unlikely to recur or become exacerbated, thanks to the use of tabs. Given the fragility of the work, this is a wonderful survivor. Bookseller Inventory # 000853

Shipping Terms:

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
