Of which are covered with paintings by Calaérezi the palace of the Grand Mailer, Where is placed one of the fineil meridians known} and near' it a lrbrary, containing fome fcri'pts, 'as well as a few fragments of Pheni clan and Greek monitments. Having left at Malta a' garrifon of three thoufa'nd men, and taken on board our ?eet a legibn of Maltefe', and fome hundreds of Turks, who were there in Havery, we left the harbour on the lfi' of Mefiidor (19th June), and made fail for the iilan'd' of Caadz'a. The Engliih, who. Had' been in quell of us from the time of our leaving Tau/on, where they had miffed us, arrived off the harbour of'.malfa two days after our departure. They there'faw the three-coloured ?ag flying, and immediately fieered the molt direct courfie for Alexandria. As we were to the left of them, ' they paffed on without falling in with us, and arrived oil that city. The Turks refufed to let them enter the harbour. They waited for us two days in that pofition when not feemg us arrive, they thought that we were perhaps in the Archipelago, or off Alexan dram, whither they eagerly directed their route.
