Luten (1908-2003), University of California, Berkeley, lecturer in geography from 1962 to 1974 and previous board member of The Sierra Club. Stapled to the back of the front free page is the pamphlet: 'Population Structure of Japan (1920-1965)'. Text of this pamphlet is in Japanese but Professor Luten has many handwritten notes in it. Taped to the inside front cover is the pamphlet: 'Japan's Population: Miracle, Model or Case Study by Irene Taeuber, reprinted from Foreign Affairs, 1962.
