About this Item

viii, 380 pages ; 18cm. Full vellum binding by Riviere, gilt title on leather spine label, all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers, heraldic bookplate of John Fremlyn Streatfeild (of Kent, 1828-1886), and an old small hand-written note written and signed by the author (somewhat illegible) tipped onto the verso of the ffep. With a fore-edge painting: a pastoral landscape with water, a church in the distance, a man and woman standing in the middle fore-ground, the woman holding an infant. The vellum covers are a little soiled, the spine more-so, and slightly bowed (as is often the case with old vellum), there is a line or crease along the middle of the fore-edge slightly affecting the painting and the gilt; the painting has lost some of its former brightness; the text is clean and un-marked; the binding is tight; overall a Good+ or better copy, notable for its binding and fore-edge painting. Carefully wrapped and quickly shipped with tracking. Non-USA order may select Standard shipping (well-padded Priority envelope, 6-12 days). Bookseller Inventory # J50605
