The wine colored covers have spotting and light soiling, else are well attached and have good, unworn edges. 436 clean and tightly bound pages. The paper is yellowed but is of a glossy nature and is not cracking. The title page gives the printing date of 1893 with Fred. Klein of Chicago being the printer. The copyright date is 1894, a year later, and is held by S. M. McDonald of New Orleans. There are some cracks in the binding, but the pages are all well bound. There are no ownership inscriptions or bookplates. Quoting from the Preface: "I have made and experimented with each recipe until perfection was reached, and in my work I received valuable aid from the experience of an old cook who stood at the range of an epicure for over 25 years, and knew how to cook food for the palate and digestive organs.".
