About this Item

232pp. 60 plates, some folding, numbered I to XLIV, with XXIX Quarto Contemporary full tree calf binding ruled and lettered in gilt. Condition: Good+. Externally the book's boards are rubbed and have two small peels. The corners are worn through; the bottom corners are bumped as well. The rear joint leather is split, as is 1.5 in. of the front joint at its foot ; the binding cords and paper at both hinges remain very sound. Aside from a few mildly soiled plates at the front, the plates have clean images, with mild foxing limited to their margins. Several plate edges protrude at the top margin. One folding plate has been skillfully repaired at a torn fold and its fore-edge with archival Japanese tissue. Plate XXX ("The Tunnel under the Thames") is partially torn away. Aside fromt their fore-edges , which are foxed, the text leaves are clean and just very slightly tanned. An old Previous owner name ("Wm. Carter 1830") appears on the front free endpaper; contemporary calligraphy consisting of 5 letters forming an indecipherable word is on the front pastedown. Special international shipping charges will apply for delivery outside the US. Please inquire about options and charges. Bookseller Inventory # 14450

Shipping Terms:

Domestic shipping via Priority Mail costs $5.75 for the first book, and $5.75 for each additional book. For Media Mail shipments, the costs are $3.95 and $3.50 respectively. We routinely use Delivery Confirmation on our domestic shipments for items valued over $75.00, at no cost to our customers.

International "priority" shipping costs displayed on our Shipping matrix are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG, and fitting in an economy International Priority Mail envelope. Such will be shipped at a net "standard" cost of $24.95. If International First Class Mail offers a savings of $5.00 or more vs. Priority Mail, we will advise you before shipping and reduce your shipping charges accordingly. If your book(s) are unusually heavy, oversized, or valued over $400, we may contact you to let you know that extra shipping costs apply. WE WILL ALWAYS SEEK TO FIND THE LEAST EXPENSIVE SHIPPING METHOD AND TO PASS ANY SAVINGS ON TO YOU. Insurance is "your care". We strongly encourage international customers to purchase at least minimal insurance to allow tracking of books valued at more than $200. Generally that costs about $3.00. International orders paid for with a credit card will be shipped only to the card's billing address, unless prior arrangements are made. We strive to ship within two business days after receipt of a firm order placed on and accepted by ABEbooks.
