Gibson / 1870' (Gibson, a natural history enthusiast, was a highly talented wood engraver, lithographer, and photographer, and was the great great grandson of jurist Richard Dana and distant cousin of author Richard Henry Dana); this hard cover book is in Poor to Fair condition, with considerable water damage, rubbing, and discoloration on the lower 6 cm of the front cover, extending through the foot of the spine to the bottom edge of the rear cover; the bottom of the lower front cover is bent up about 7 mm due to the water and there is spotting where the water came in contact with the covers, the contents largely escaped contact with the water (little or no waviness) and are in quite decent condition, aside from the darkening of the text portion of many of the pages that is often noted in connection with this book; would interest collectors of early books on U.S. geology, especially in its association with Gibson; cloth covers are brown with gold lettering stamped on the front; 230 millimeters tall x 149 millimeters wide; 155 numbered pages.
