About this title

Synopsis:

Now that so many Americans learn about their world by watching television, isn't it about time someone used that method to write history? No bibliography, of course; that would be silly. Distributed by St. Martin's Press. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

From Library Journal:

McCrohan's father, who worked for the Sylvania Corporation, brought home one of the first television sets in 1947. McCrohan clearly loves television, about which she has written 13 books. In this book, she analyzes each of the number one- and number two-rated programs from 1950 to 1989, offering biographical tidbits, inside information about the origins of the programs, brief synopses of each serial theme, and sociological observations. This is a pleasant walk through meadows of relaxing memories and serene video settings, but not much more. McCrohan's attempts to evoke deep hidden meanings often lead to painfully obvious conclusions, unwarranted assumptions, and plain silliness. Not an essential purchase.
