Synopsis: In the absence of her mother, Princess Bee tests out the storytelling abilities of other family members at bedtime, but she ultimately must rely upon herself and memories of her mother to fall asleep.

From School Library Journal: PreSchool-K-- A book that succeeds as a preschool read-aloud or a bedtime story, and is a good choice for parents who are looking for a lighthearted look at separation anxiety. When the queen goes on a trip, young Princess Bee cannot fall asleep. Her brother and sister try to help, but their stories are too short. "Mum never, EVER runs out of story before I fall asleep," grumbles Bee. Comforting words from her father encourage Bee to find the solution to her problem within herself. Asher's lilting text begs to be read aloud (with a touch of a British accent and a brief bow in the direction of the royal family.) The humorous watercolors add to the appeal. Princess Bee sleeps in a bed shaped like a rabbit, and the other members of the royal family have equally special resting places. The Royal Big Sister is a bit of a tomboy; the Royal Big Brother tells Bee a swashbuckling tale. Their animated expressions and poor Bee's dejected look hit just the right note. Asher's gentle message is well delivered: traveling parents do return, and children do have the power to cope successfully with brief separations. --Gail C. Ross, Baltimore County Public Library
