Book Condition: Very Good+
Limp leather wraps, "Princeton" stamped on front cover; oblong 4to (13 x 10 inches); contains about 100 grey "Puro" archival paper leaves, with b/w or sepia silver gelatin prints tipped to the recto and verso of nearly every page. Well over 100 photographs in all, from 1 to 6 per page, prints come in a variety of sizes (from about 3x5 to 8x10 inches) and shapes, including full-page group (or team) portraits, and panoramas of crowds, playing fields, and landscapes. Leather scuffed and deteriorating a bit along spine and edges; otherwise in excellent condition, photographs are overall nicely composed, exposed, and printed, with some occasional faint silvering (handsomely so). The first half of the album is, perhaps, the student getting to know the university -- tranquil, unpeopled, shots of the campus and the surrounding environs, including some Tudor homes. The second half of the album is devoted almost entirely to sports and student life. In addition to large, formal portraits of the football, baseball, and (perhaps?) rugby teams, it offers panoramas of cheering crowds, athletes on the field (in action) as well as standing for portraits. Nicely rounded out with a glimpse inside the dorms, featuring that guy (we all know this guy) who squints and smokes a pipe; a large crowd in costume; and a few images of a bonfire. An engaging look at the life of a Princeton man, at the turn of the century. Bookseller Inventory # D2251
