About this Item

Sokoloff, Boris Alexandre. Principe et rÈalisation d'une machine mathÈmatique dite "OpÈrateur MathÈmatique .lectronique" O.M.E. Offprint from Annales des tÈlÈcommunications 5 (1950). 143-158 [2]pp. Text illustrations. 298 x 213 mm. Original gray printed wrappers, chipped, front wrapper detached. Light browning. First Edition. A description of the OME 111 analog computer manufactured by the SociÈtÈ d'.lectronique et d'Automatisme (SEA), France's first indigenous electronic computer company. The SEA was founded by FranÁois Raymond in 1948, the same year that the Compagnie des Machines Bull (which originated in Scandinavia) established its electronic computer division. Sokoloff was one of the first engineers hired by the SEA. One of SEA's earliest products, launched in 1949, was the OME series of analog computers-the initials stand for Operateur Mathematique .lectronique. The SEA produced several other series of both scientific and business-oriented machines until its absorption, in 1966, in the merger that created the Compagnie Internationale pour l'Informatique (CII).
