About this Item

Hardcover. 172 pages. Dimensions: 9.1in. x 6.3in. x 0.8in.The book presents thirteen paradoxical and thought-provoking principles that generate positive living. The following topics are discussed in an interesting manner, including real-life illustrations, humor, and insightful quotations: Living, Coping, Achieving, Overcoming Failure, Giving, Investing, Serving, Praying, Forgiving, Loving, Aging, Believing, and Worshipping. The fundamental thesis of the book is that we are not equipped for successful living unless we have some inner core principles to give us guidance. Thats the symbolism of the compass on the cover. Just as an actual compass gives us reliable guidance in finding our way through an unfamiliar wilderness, sound principles guide us through the maze of choices we make on lifes challenging journey. While the book is written especially for Christian readers, the principles are valid for everyone. The author writes from an evangelical Christian perspective, but the book is not sectarian. The sound Scriptural foundation presented resonates with readers of various religious persuasion. The thirteen chapter format is designed to make it appealing for small groups. At the end of each chapter, seven discussion questions are given to give guidance in applying the principle. This item ships from multiple locations. About the Author:

The author, Wil Watson, graduated with honors from Olivet Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary. He served 40 years as a senior pastor and a district administrator in Indiana. He is the father of three children: David, an ordained minister who lives in Kansas City; Karen, a music teacher in public school in the Atlanta area; Stephen, an attorney in Indianapolis. Also, he is the step-father of two adult children, Matthew Foor and Marci Reynolds. He and his wife Carol (who also does some writing for publication) now reside in Bourbonnais, Illinois, about 50 miles south of Chicago. While this is the author's first published book, he has authored numerous published magazine articles. Throughout his ministerial carreer, he has recognized the need of deeply held principles to help people avoid the pitfalls of yielding to peer presssure and situation ethics. As a result, he has formulated what he refers to as "paradoxical principles" and now presents them to the general public through this published work. It is his sincere hope that it will help many have an internal "compass" -- a magnetic north -- to guide them to a successful, fulfilled, and God-centered life.
