About this Item

This Iowa Republican served that state both as representative (1919-30) and as senator (1931-37). Printed DS, 8½" X 13", 5pp (rectos only), n.p. [likely Washington, DC], n.y. [likely near 1934 December 22]. Near fine. Single staple at upper left (but no rusting). Mimeographed double-spaced typed text of the Iowa Republican senator's radio address, titled "Senator L.J. Dickinson Reviews the New Deal Program Over CBS" and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System on December 22, 1934 from Washington, DC. "The New Deal Program as Viewed by a Republican" is Dickinson's topic, and a stinging critique of FDR's programs it is. ".under the present reform system, monopoly is being encouraged, private initiative is being depressed and the small business man driven to the wall." Dickinson has signed boldly in black fountain pen near the top of the first page, adding "Iowa" beneath. Most interesting, and quite unusual in this format. Bookseller Inventory # 22567
