Frontis. 175pp. 8vo, handsomely bound in 20th century 3/4 blue morocco, original wrappers bound in, wrappers dampstained and soiled, some pages including Frontis. and title page lightly dampstained in top margin, most pages wrinkled from exposure to dampness, but not dampstained. Philadelphia: George W. Childs, 1862. First Edition. Author was a lieutenant in Col. Baker's California regiment. Almost all of this book was written while in prison and smuggled out in the lining of an overcoat. William Harris served four months until his release in February, 1862. Bookseller Inventory # 243207
