Starts with the Stone River Campaign. Contains a wonderful account of Rosecrans holding a Mass on the battlefield as well as a description of the decapitation of Gen. Julius Garesche as he rode with Rosecrans toward the Round Forest. Jones recalls the carnage during the retreat at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and the Atlanta Campaign.
